Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have detained a youth with four gold bars during a drive in Jashore Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.

The detainee has been identified as Amit Bishwas, 31, son of Ranjan Bishwas from Jagir Deoli village under Boalmari upazila of Faridpur.

Confirming the matter, Lt Col Saifullah Siddiqui, commanding officer of Jashore 49 BGB, said acting on a tip-off, a patrol team set up a checkpoint around 11am at the Rajarhat bus stand area on the Khulna-Jashore highway.

During the operation, the team intercepted a Dhaka-bound bus heading towards Satkhira and arrested Amit.

Upon searching, four gold bars weighing 466.46 grams were recovered from his pants pocket. The estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk70.30 lakh.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Amit had collected the gold bars from smugglers in Dhaka’s Dholaipar area and was on his way to Satkhira via Jashore.

The detainee was later handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station, where a case has been filed in this connection.
