Islamic Andolan announces 15-day programme demanding implementation of PR system

Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced a 15-day nationwide programme demanding the next parliamentary election be held under the Proportional Representation (PR) system. The party’s programme includes public rallies and processions in all districts and upazilas from September 1 to September 15. Simultaneously, leaflets will be distributed to build public support for the PR system.

This information was disclosed in a notice sent from the party’s office on Wednesday. The notice stated that a weekly meeting was held on Tuesday evening, August 19, at the central office of Islami Andolan in Pallabi, Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by the party’s Ameer Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim. In his presidential address, he said, “The blood of young students cannot be sacrificed for the greed of any political party. Therefore, we have demanded that the next election be held under the PR system, a tested and effective method to prevent autocracy. We have decided to take to the streets with this demand and announced the program accordingly.”

The weekly meeting was attended by the party’s Secretary General Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmed, Presidium Member Principal Maulana Musaddiq Billah Al Madani, Joint Secretary General Engineer Muhammad Ashraful Alam, Hafez Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud, Maulana Muhammad Imtiaz Alam, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Ahmad Abdul Qayyum, K.M. Atiqur Rahman, Office Secretary Maulana Lokman Hossain Jafri, and other senior leaders.
