The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has reiterated its commitment to addressing climate change in the apparel industry.
This commitment was emphasized during a multi-stakeholder working group meeting held on 18 August 2025 at Six Seasons Hotel in Dhaka, organised by GIZ and Solidaridad Network Asia.
BGMEA was represented by Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan and Director Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, who shared insights on sustainable practices and climate change initiatives in the sector.
The meeting gathered stakeholders from garment factories, international brands, donors, and service providers to work towards a unified plan for tackling climate-related challenges, including policy development, carbon emission reduction, and financing solutions.
The BGMEA is actively pursuing energy-efficient practices, renewable energy adoption, circular economy projects, and the development of an ESG data platform. Participants underscored the importance of international brands investing in sustainability, not just as buyers but as partners in the effort.
The meeting highlighted ongoing challenges such as policy gaps and funding limitations but stressed the need for collaborative action. With continued cooperation, Bangladesh’s garment industry aims to set a global example for sustainable production.
