Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman has instructed military personnel to maintain complete neutrality during the upcoming national elections, expected to be held in February 2026.

In a significant officers’ address at the Army Headquarters on Tuesday, he urged soldiers to perform their duties with professionalism and caution.

During the event, General Waker expressed frustration over ongoing social media campaigns targeting the army and its members, along with other alleged misconduct. The event, which began at 10 a.m., was attended both virtually and in person by military officers from all cantonments and UN missions.

“There are smear campaigns against the army and its members on social media. However, our professional conduct will guide us on the right path,” he said, calling on all personnel to be patient and urged legal action against such false propaganda.

The army chief also voiced concerns about the recent incidents involving Station Commander of Dhaka cantonment Brigadier general Ashrafuzzaman, stating that the tendency for extramarital relationships among army members is having a damaging impact on society. Such actions could be dangerous for the nation.

He urged all soldiers to refrain from such activities and take necessary steps to warn their subordinates.

Speaking of the army’s role in the upcoming elections, the army chief assured that the military’s role will be entirely neutral. He called on all members to prepare for their historic duties in the election.

Additionally, the army chief issued important guidelines regarding political activities, drug abuse, traffic accidents, suicide prevention, and family responsibilities for military personnel.

General Waker also cautioned against the spread of fake information about the army on social media, urging everyone to take a firm stand against such misinformation.

Emphasizing the importance of professionalism and unity, he said, “Our strong morale and unity will help us achieve our ultimate goals.”
