High Court has granted bail to actress Shomi Kaiser in an attempted murder case filed over a shooting incident during the July 2024 uprising in Dhaka’s Uttara area.

An HC bench of justices ASM Abdul Mobin and Md Jabid Hossain passed the order after hearing her bail petition on Sunday, though the decision was disclosed on Monday.

According to the case statement, on August 4 last year, pro-Awami League supporters opened fire when Tongi Government College student Jubayer Hasan Yusuf and others were demonstrating in the Azampur area under Uttara Purbo Police Station. Jubayer sustained bullet injuries to his neck and was hospitalised.

Later, on August 22, Jubayer filed a case naming 11 people, including Shomi Kaiser, along with 150–200 unnamed individuals.

Law enforcers detained Shomi from her residence in Uttara Sector-4 on November 5, and showed her arrested in the case the next day. On December 8, the HC granted her bail for three months in a separate case, but the Appellate Division stayed that order on December 12.
