Police have arrested two people, including Jubo Dal activist Solaiman Sujan, on charges of hijacking a rod-laden truck in Kabirhat, Noakhali.
A case over the incident was filed on Sunday night. Earlier, the truck was recovered and the suspects detained through an online tracker after it was hijacked on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway.
Police said the two would be produced before court on Monday.
The arrestees are Solaiman Sujan, 35, son of Mofizur Rahman alias Anand Master of Madhya Sundalpur village in Kabirhat upazila, and Abu Sayed, 45, son of Omar Ali from Uttar Ghoshbag village in Ward 9 of Kabirhat municipality. Sujan is known locally as a Jubo Dal activist.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaheen Mia said the accused hijacked the truck from the Dhaka–Chattogram highway on Saturday and brought it to Kabirhat. Acting on information, police contacted the owner and, using an online tracker, recovered the rod-laden truck from Ward 5 of Sundalpur union in the upazila and arrested the two.
Following the incident, Sujan has been expelled for life from Jubo Dal’s primary membership, according to a press release signed by Kabirhat upazila Sundalpur union Jubo Dal Convener Mosharraf Hossain Sumon and Member Secretary Jahangir Alam.
