Of the 27 people confirmed dead so far in the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft on college campus grounds, 20 bodies have already been handed over to their families.
The update was confirmed by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Professor Dr Sayedur Rahman during a press briefing at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Tuesday morning.
He added that doctors have identified 25 of the deceased as children. Another 78 people are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals, with five in critical condition.
“Many of the victims are children under the age of 12, and most of them suffered severe burns across large portions of their bodies. We are doing everything possible to save them,” Dr Rahman stated.
On Monday, the Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College, leading to the deaths of at least 25 children, with hundreds more injured. Following the crash, the government declared state mourning on Tuesday, postponing school board exams and events commemorating the anniversary of the July uprising.
