Former wife of ex-Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched her own political party. Reham Khan, a former TV anchor and journalist, has entered the political arena of Pakistan with Pakistan Republic Party, as she announced at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.

Reham Khan said during the press conference, “I’ve never accepted political positions before. I joined a party once for just one person. But today, I stand on my own terms.”

Khan said her party aims to be a genuine representation of the people in the country’s legislative bodies and will seek to hold the ruling elite accountable. The new party was formed as a response to the growing public disillusionment with the current political system, reports news agencies.

“This is not just a party, it’s a movement to convert politics into service,” she said.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s persistent development challenges, she said, “From 2012 to 2025, the Pakistan I’ve witnessed still lacks clean drinking water and basic healthcare. That’s not acceptable anymore.”

Khan said her political journey is motivated by a genuine desire for change and not by a hunger for power and that she intends for Parliament members to reflect the “class” they represent.

Criticising Pakistan’s dynastic politics and the political landscape being dominated by elite families, she claimed her party had no external backing saying, “We are not here to serve personal empires. No one in our party will contest from four constituencies at one time, and we’re not here to play political games.”

Reham Khan promised to unveil her party’s manifesto soon, stating that it would be rooted in constitutional values.

Meanwhile, earlier in July, Imran Khan’s party Tehreek-e-Insaf has informally started a campaign demanding the release of the incarcerated former Prime Minister.
