The National Citizen Party (NCP) now faces trouble for its registration as the Election Commission (EC) has found discrepancies in the documents of 144 new political parties, including the NCP.

EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz confirmed the development on Tuesday.

Reportedly, none of the parties managed to pass the preliminary screening. Consequently, 62 parties are being sent letters in the first phase, while the remaining 82, including the NCP, will be contacted in the second phase.

However, the parties have been asked to correct and complete their documents and submit them to the EC within next 15 days.

Newaz stated that in the first phase, letters will be sent to 62 parties, followed by letters to the remaining parties in subsequent phases.

All errors and deficiencies must be rectified within the deadline, he added.

Earlier, the EC had issued a public notice inviting applications from parties aspiring for registration, with the deadline set for April 20.

However, following applications from several parties, including the NCP, the deadline was extended until June 22. By that time, a total of 144 parties submitted 147 applications for their registration.
