Appellate Division has formed an inquiry committee to investigate whether fraud, irregularities or discrepancies occurred in the verdicts and judicial proceedings of 18 cases regarding primary teacher recruitment.
The committee, headed by the registrar general of the Supreme Court, has been asked to submit its report by 23 November. The court has fixed 26 November for the next order on the matter.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by the chief justice, passed the order on Monday. Later, Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the order.
Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee said they will begin the investigation after receiving the written order.
Out of the 18 cases, Md Kamal Hossain was the lawyer in 12. Mohammed Siddiq Ullah Miah was the lawyer in three cases. The lawyers in the remaining three cases were Md Borhan Khan, Syed Md Jahangir Hossain and Sajjadul Islam.
Additional Attorney General Mohammad Aneek Rushd Haque conducted the hearing in court for the state. Lawyers Zainul Abedin, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Syed Mamun Mahbub conducted the hearing on behalf of Siddiq Ullah Miah.
Speaking to journalists after the order, Zainul Abedin said that all 18 cases will be investigated. He added that the registrar general has been given the responsibility for the inquiry.
If any irregularities or discrepancies in the cases emerge in the report, the court will take the next decision.
He mentioned that judges are expected to conduct judicial proceedings independently. Pointing out that the judicial process will not continue as before, he said there is now a democratic government in the country and justice needs to be ensured.
Earlier, when hearings on appeals against High Court verdicts passed against the government commenced, the state raised allegations of various irregularities and discrepancies regarding the verdicts in these cases on 28 October.
Following this, the Appellate Division led by the chief justice reviewed the records of the cases.
