Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that vested interests and conspirators are trying to damage the country’s garment industry by fuelling unrest in the sector.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday morning, he urged the government to take a firm stance against those behind the situation.
Shafiqur said unrest in the garment sector was continuing, with reports of vandalism and arson at industrial establishments in different areas.
“Neither owners nor workers can establish their rights by destroying industrial establishments. We believe no worker would be involved in such acts,” he said.
The Jamaat chief noted that around 600 factories had already been declared closed and said the possibility of a conspiracy to undermine the garment industry’s prospects ahead of the winter season could not be ruled out.
He called on all stakeholders, including factory owners and workers, to remain sincere and vigilant.
