Bangladeshi superstar Shakib Khan stole the spotlight at the Dhallywood Awards 2026 in New York on 10 October, where the actor celebrated 27 years in cinema and won the Best Actor award.
The event marked his return to the awards ceremony after several years. Faridur Reza Sagar, Afzal Hossain and other distinguished guests presented honours to the actor, making the occasion a celebration of his long career.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi expatriate Sharmina Siraj Sonia won praise for hosting the event. Based in the United States for many years, Sonia also helped plan the ceremony.
The awards were organised under the overall supervision and sponsorship of Khairul Islam Khokon, chief executive officer of Show Time, which led the event’s return as a major celebration of Bangladeshi entertainment abroad.
Other award recipients included Faridur Reza Sagar, Afzal Hossain, Chanchal Chowdhury, Kona Reza, Toma Mirza, Samira Khan Mahi, Jovan, Dighi and Shirin Shila.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shakib said he was surprised and delighted that the organisers had celebrated his 27-year journey in cinema. He credited his fans for embracing the changes he had made throughout his career and for continuing to support his films in cinemas.
The actor also praised the revival of the awards, saying such events could help Bangladeshi cinema reach wider international audiences.
He added that he was particularly pleased to present honours to respected figures from the industry, as well as receive an award himself.
Sonia expressed gratitude to Khokon for trusting her with the responsibility of hosting and planning the event.
She said the participation of a large group of Bangladeshi stars had made the ceremony memorable and strengthened its future prospects.
She added that the event had once again demonstrated the scale and significance of Bangladeshi entertainment awards held outside the country.
