Twenty-five students of Chittagong University (CU) have been nominated for the Prime Minister Gold Medal.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) on Monday.
According to the UGC notification, a total of 469 students from various universities across the country have been nominated for the Prime Minister Gold Medal for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Among the nominees from CU, nine students were selected for the year 2019. They are:
Zohair Furqan (Department of Arabic), Mohammad Nur Ali (Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences), Tasfika Khanam (Department of Finance), Jannatul Ferdous (Department of Economics), Umme Habiba (Department of Law), Tahsin Shams Sadia (Department of Soil Science), Mohammad Newaz Jamil (Department of Computer Science and Engineering), Raiyan Ahmed (Department of Oceanography), Afsana Akhter (Medical College – MBBS).
For the year 2020, eight CU students have been nominated. They are:
Mohammad Abdul Halim (Department of Arabic), Itamoni Chakma (Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences), Shahrin Akhter (Department of Banking and Insurance), Didarul Islam (Department of Economics), Mohaiminullah Sarkar (Department of Pharmacy), Fairoz Abida (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Mitu Ranjan Sarkar (Department of Fisheries), Israt Parveen (Medical College – MBBS)
A further eight students were nominated for the year 2021. They are:
Ashrafun Nesa (Department of Persian Language and Literature), Tahmidul Islam Akib (Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering), Nusrat Jahan (Department of Banking and Insurance), Mintu Barua (Department of Economics), Tonika Islam (Department of Law), Fahmida Rahman (Department of Zoology), Md Mehedi Hasan (Department of Oceanography), Md Adibul Haque Nafis (Medical College – MBBS).
The UGC has been awarding the Prime Minister Gold Medal since 2005 to recognise the academic achievements of meritorious students at the university level and to encourage higher education and research.
Students attaining the highest results in faculty-wise departments at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are nominated for this honour.
