Six people died of dengue and 1,608 others were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8am on Saturday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest data were released by the DGHS in a statement on Saturday, covering the period from 8am Friday to 8am Saturday.

With the latest deaths, the country’s dengue death toll has reached 256 so far this year.

Dhaka South City Corporation recorded the highest number of dengue deaths, with 72 fatalities reported there this year, according to the health authorities.

September was particularly deadly, with 148 people dying of dengue across the country during the month.

The DGHS said 84,369 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since the beginning of the year.

Of them, 78,482 have recovered and returned home, the data showed.
