Four more people have died of dengue in the country over the last 24 hours, while 1,978 new patients have been admitted to hospital. With the latest deaths, the total death toll from dengue this year has risen to 249.
This information was released in the daily dengue report issued on 1 October by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the report, a total of 81,598 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country from 1 January to date this year.
Among them, 75,699 individuals have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, while 5,650 patients are currently undergoing treatment.
Of the newly hospitalised patients in the last 24 hours, 1,254 are male and 724 are female. During this period, the highest number of admissions was recorded among individuals aged 21 to 25 years, standing at 306 patients.
This was followed by 281 patients aged 26 to 30 years and 263 patients aged 16 to 20 years.
Among the four patients who died in the last 24 hours, two were male and two were female. In terms of age breakdown, one victim was between 16 and 20 years old, one between 26 and 30, one between 46 and 50, and one between 51 and 55 years.
DGHS data shows that males account for 62.3 per cent of total dengue cases this year, while females account for 37.7 per cent.
However, the proportion of deaths is higher among females, with women accounting for 52.2 per cent of overall fatalities compared to 47.8 per cent for men.
So far this year, 62,702 patients have been admitted to hospital in city corporation areas, whereas 18,896 patients were admitted in areas outside city corporations.
On a monthly basis, September recorded 43,774 hospital admissions, marking the highest single-month total so far this year. Hospital admissions stood at 9,206 in August and 2,907 in July, while 1,978 patients have been admitted in October so far.
Meanwhile, 148 people died of dengue in September. Fatalities stood at 43 in August and 36 in July, while four deaths have been recorded in October so far.
According to the latest DGHS data, out of the 1,978 patients admitted across public and private hospitals in the last 24 hours, 1,682 were admitted to government hospitals and 296 to private hospitals. During the same period, 1,809 patients were discharged from hospital.
