Ayushmann Khurrana believes Bollywood stardom has changed significantly, with multiple entertainment platforms creating different stars for different audiences.
Speaking at FICCI Frames in Mumbai, the actor said stardom is now “relative” and that “the script is the star”.
He noted that influencers and YouTubers have also emerged as major figures, while some popular personalities remain unknown to wider audiences.
Khurrana, who began his career in radio and television, said interacting with people helps him stay connected to the grounded stories he wants to tell.
He also called for more affordable films that connect with audiences rather than relying solely on star power and large budgets. Citing ‘Hanuman Anah’ and ‘Obsession’, he said smaller films from different worlds can succeed theatrically.
Khurrana said his upcoming spy-comedy ‘Udta Teer’, starring Sara Ali Khan, marks a return to his core genre. The film is scheduled to release on 9 October.
