Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his three‑day state visit to Washington by looking ahead to further engagements with US President Donald Trump, underscoring the cordial yet weighty relationship between the two leaders.
During tea with the Trumps at the White House, Xi remarked that the prospects for the bilateral relationship would continue to improve, reports CNN.
He noted that there would be two more opportunities to meet before the year’s end — at the APEC summit in China and the G20 summit in the United States.
Xi also indicated he would welcome the president and first lady back to China.
Trump responded affirmatively, saying they would indeed meet again and remain in close contact. He later confirmed on social media that he planned to attend the APEC summit in Shenzhen on 18-19 November, while hosting the G20 summit in Miami in December.
Xi’s Washington trip marked the second meeting between the two leaders this year and the third since the start of Trump’s second term.
