A 35-year-old female worker named Josna Begum died after falling through the opening of a lift shaft from the fifth floor of an under-construction building in the capital’s Kadamtali area.
The accident occurred at around 1pm on Friday at an under-construction building named Safa Tower on 24 Feet Road in Shani Akhra, Kadamtali.
Co-workers rescued her in a critical condition and rushed her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where an on-duty doctor declared her dead at around 2:30pm.
At the hospital, Josna’s co-worker Md Yunus Ali said she was employed to clean waste inside the under-construction building. She had been cleaning waste on fifth floor since morning when she inadvertently fell through the opening of fifth-floor lift shaft.
Upon noticing her fall, colleagues quickly rushed her to DMCH emergency department, where doctors examined her and declared her dead.
He further informed that Josna Begum hailed from Shantipur village in Mithamain, Kishoreganj. She was currently residing with her husband, Madhu Miah, in Govindapur area of Shani Akhra.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of DMCH Police Camp, said the body has been kept at hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Kadamtali Police Station is currently investigating the incident
