Actor Zayed Khan has joined efforts to support actor and poet Rifat Chowdhury, who is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rifat is receiving treatment at Medicine Unit-3 in the hospital’s new building. He has been dealing with various physical complications for a long time. The cost of his treatment has also become difficult for him to bear.
News of Rifat’s illness has prompted several colleagues from the entertainment industry to come forward. Representatives of Actors’ Equity (Obhinoy Shilpi Sangha) have already visited him at the hospital and provided financial assistance.
Actor Chanchal Chowdhury also previously appealed for support for Rifat’s treatment. He said he and their organisations would provide whatever assistance was necessary. Recent reports also confirmed that Chanchal urged colleagues, organisations and well-wishers to stand by Rifat amid his financial difficulties.
Zayed has now joined the initiative and provided financial assistance towards Rifat’s medical expenses.
“Rifat bhai is a senior artist among us. It is our responsibility to stand by him at this time. I believe that having colleagues by one’s side during a crisis boosts an artist’s morale significantly. I have tried to support him to the best of my ability, and I hope others will also come forward,” Zayed said.
Various organisations and artists have already extended support to Rifat. However, those involved in the initiative said further assistance is still needed to ensure that his treatment continues properly.
Recent reports said Zayed, who is currently in the United States, provided the financial assistance on Thursday, 24 September.
