A Saudi expatriate was killed and another person seriously injured after a motorcycle lost control on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Hridoy, 27, a resident of Rasulpur Abdullahpur village in South Keraniganj. The injured rider, Sazzad, 24, is from Uttar Ghoramara area of Sirajdikhan. The accident occurred around 6:30am on the Dhaka-bound lane near the slope of Kuchiamora Bridge, according to police and fire service officials.
Fire Service personnel rescued the two motorcycle riders after receiving information about the crash. Hridoy died at the scene, while Sazzad was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Sazzad said a group of friends had travelled to Mawa on motorcycles late Thursday night and were returning to Dhaka in the morning when the accident occurred. He said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed when the rider lost control.
Munshiganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said an emergency rescue unit from Sirajdikhan Fire Station reached the spot and recovered the victims. He said Hridoy had been working in Saudi Arabia and had returned home on leave about four months ago. He was scheduled to return to Saudi Arabia within a few days. Hridoy is survived by his wife and daughter.
The victim’s body was handed over to highway police for legal procedures.
