Chittagong University (CU) student was electrocuted to death while putting up a banner at the gate of Shahid Abdur Rab Hall on the campus.
The deceased was identified as Ariful Islam, a student of the Department of Zoology under the 2024–25 academic session.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Ariful came into contact with an electric wire while installing a banner at the hall gate and fell to the ground.
He was immediately taken to the university’s medical centre for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram. However, he died on the way to the hospital.
Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Chakshu) Communications and Accommodation Secretary Ishaq Bhuiyan confirmed the death.
“After Arif was electrocuted, he was referred from the CU Medical Centre to a hospital in the city. But he died on the way,” he said.
