Two people, including a Chinese national and a woman, were rescued alive in Nepal on Saturday, 10 days after devastating floods swept through parts of the country, officials said.
The Chinese national was found inside a tunnel at the Trishuli hydropower project, according to a post by the Prime Minister’s Office on social media.
His rescue brings the number of workers found alive at the project to three, reports AP.
Two Nepali workers were rescued from a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A hydropower plant on Friday.
A joint team of Nepali army personnel and South Korean disaster-response specialists rescued the Chinese worker from a 225-metre (738-foot) tunnel, Nepal’s army said.
He was medically assessed after being brought out and later evacuated by helicopter.
An army medic accompanied him during the flight.
Footage released by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed two rescuers carrying the survivor out of the tunnel.
Authorities said around 900 workers remain missing from 12 hydropower projects across Nepal. About 500 of them are believed to be trapped inside tunnels.
In a separate rescue operation, a woman was found alive inside a house in flood-hit Nuwakot town on Saturday, according to a Nepal army spokesperson.
She was airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment.
Photos released by the army showed rescuers finding the woman covered in mud. They gave her bottled water before carrying her to safety wrapped in a grey blanket.
At least 1,300 people were killed in the floods that struck Nepal on August 26, while more than 5,000 people remain missing, according to the country’s disaster management agency.
The flooding was likely triggered by a glacier collapse.
