At least four people, including two children, were killed and seven others injured in separate road accident in Tangail and Sherpur on Monday.
In Tangail: Two women and one child were killed after a bus hit the auto-rickshaw they were traveling in Dhanbari. All three victims were passengers in the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
The accident occurred at around 2pm on Monday (July 7) in the Baghil area of the upazila. The identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunabari Police Station, SM Shahidullah, the accident occurred when a passenger bus traveling from Dhaka to Jamalpur collided with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction at Baghil.
As a result, two women and one child died on the spot. Two others were injured and were rescued and taken to the local health complex for treatment.
In Sherpur: A child was killed, and five others, including another child, were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-ran auto-rickshaw in Sherpur’s Nakla upazila.
The accident took place at around 11am on Monday at the Paikka Bypass intersection on the Dhaka-Sherpur regional highway.
Witnesses stated that a Nakla bound CNG auto-rickshaw, coming from Mymensingh, collided with a bus of Siam Paribahan traveling from Sherpur to Dhaka.
The auto-rickshaw was severely damaged, and a child named Tandara died on the spot.
The auto-rickshaw driver, Babla, along with the child’s parents and four other passengers, were injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Nakla Upazila Health Complex. They were later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their condition were detariorated.
Habibur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nakla Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that the Siam Paribahan bus had been seized, but the driver is currently on the run.
