United International University (UIU) has launched 18 new air-conditioned buses for students as part of its efforts to improve campus mobility and provide a more comfortable university experience. The new bus service was inaugurated on September 2, 2026, at 11:00 am at the UIU campus in Dhaka.
Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UIU, attended the inauguration as chief guest, while Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, Chairman and Managing Director of United Group and Joint General Secretary of the UIU Board of Trustees, was present as special guest. Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor of UIU, presided over the ceremony.
UIU said in a press release that the new AC bus service would operate across six major routes in Dhaka to help students, particularly those travelling from distant areas, reach campus on time and return home more conveniently. The service is aimed at providing reliable transportation while making students’ daily journeys more comfortable and time-efficient.
Hasan Mahmood Raja said UIU had always given importance to student transportation and other essential services alongside academic activities. He expressed hope that the new service would support regular class attendance, punctuality and an improved university experience, while encouraging students to focus on personal development and become responsible members of society.
Moinuddin Hasan Rashid said United Group remained committed to supporting a modern and supportive educational environment for UIU students. He said the new service would help students save time and improve their daily experience, adding that United Group would continue supporting such initiatives to help establish UIU as an internationally recognised, knowledge-based institution.
Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia said the initiative went beyond introducing new buses and reflected the university’s commitment to creating a student-focused campus experience. He described the launch as an extension of UIU’s belief in putting students first.
The new buses build on UIU’s existing transportation support system. Since relocating to its permanent campus on Madani Avenue in 2018, the university has provided free shuttle services and subsidised transportation on different routes. The addition of 18 subsidised AC buses expands access to more comfortable and reliable transport for the UIU community.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the UIU Board of Trustees, heads of departments, faculty members, officials, students and distinguished guests.
