The death toll from floods along Nepal’s Bhotekoshi river has climbed to 1,127, with bodies recovered across several districts and in neighbouring India, Nepal Police said Wednesday.
As of 5am, 45 bodies had been recovered in Rasuwa, where the flooding began, while 155 were found in Nuwakot, 59 in Dhading, 348 in Chitwan, 66 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 217 in Nawalparasi East, 190 in Nawalparasi West and nine in India.
Police said postmortem and legal identification procedures had been completed for 1,113 victims, with 95 bodies handed over to relatives, reports The Kathmandu Post.
Details of 911 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website to assist families searching for missing relatives.
Authorities have deployed 7,912 police personnel to flood‑hit areas for search and rescue, relief distribution and the management of recovered bodies.
Police said 6,541 people had been rescued, while search operations continue for 4,858 reported missing.
Teams are also relocating families from high‑risk zones, clearing debris‑blocked roads and coordinating rescue and relief with local authorities and residents.
The flood, triggered by an ice‑rock avalanche, has caused widespread destruction along the Bhotekoshi river, damaging settlements, roads, border trade facilities and hydropower infrastructure in multiple districts.
