The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has recommended approval of two proposals to procure six cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from BP Singapore Pte Limited and Qatar Energy Trading LLC.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the committee’s 51st meeting of 2026, held virtually on Saturday.
According to the Cabinet Division, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division placed two proposals at the meeting. After discussions, the committee recommended approval of both proposals, BSS reports.
Under the first proposal, the government will procure five LNG cargoes from BP Singapore Pte Limited through the direct procurement method, in accordance with Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
The proposal also allows the purchase of additional cargoes, if necessary, subject to the consent of both parties. The proposed price is JKM minus $0.17 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), with BP Singapore Pte Limited named as the recommended bidder.
Under the second proposal, the government will procure one additional LNG cargo from Qatar Energy Trading LLC on a government-to-government (G2G) basis under the existing long-term contract.
The cargo is scheduled for 20 December and will be purchased at a price different from the rate specified in the existing contract.
The proposed price is JKM minus $0.10 per MMBtu, with Qatar Energy Trading LLC named as the recommended bidder.
JKM, or Japan Korea Marker, is a benchmark price used for spot LNG cargoes in the Asian market.
