Devastating floods along the China-Nepal border have killed at least 1,050 people in Nepal, the country’s disaster authority said on Tuesday.
Nearly 4,000 people remain missing, reports AFP.
Chinese state media earlier reported that 16 people were killed in Tibet, bringing the total death toll from the 26 August disaster to 1,066.
Rescue teams with search dogs pressed on Tuesday through mud, rocks and debris along the Nepal–China border, searching for thousands missing a week after flash floods that devastated Himalayan communities. Police in Kathmandu buried dozens of bodies in trenches.
The scale of the disaster is slowing rescue efforts, with landslides, destroyed roads and widespread damage cutting off remote areas. Crews face unstable terrain and heavy debris, raising fears the toll will climb as rescuers reach isolated communities, AP reports.
