Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood has been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.
The minister, who has been suffering from a fever, cold and cough for the last four to five days, was admitted to the hospital in Dhaka around 8:30pm on Tuesday night.
Mahmood, a senior leader of BNP, returned to parliament representing the Sirajganj-2 constituency in the 2026 general election. He was sworn in as the minister for power, energy and mineral resources on 17 February 2026 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Mahmood was elected to parliament once again from the Sirajganj-2 seat in the 2001 general election. He went on to serve as the state minister for power from October 2001 to May 2006 in the government led by Khaleda Zia.
Following this tenure, he was appointed as the state minister for agriculture, serving from May to October 2006. In June 2019, Mahmood was inducted into the BNP’s Standing Committee.
