Production on The Batman: Part II is finally underway, with the highly anticipated sequel currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland, reports Collider.
Local residents and fans have been closely following the production, and newly surfaced set photos and videos appear to offer a glimpse of a chase sequence involving Batman’s iconic Batmobile.
The sequel will continue the story of Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne following the events of 2022’s The Batman.
The new film is expected to explore his further evolution as Gotham’s masked vigilante after the devastating flooding that struck the city at the end of the first film.
Several familiar faces are returning, including Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál.
The sequel will also introduce Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
Zoë Kravitz, who played Catwoman in the first film, is reportedly not returning for the sequel.
Meanwhile, recent footage from the Glasgow set has sparked speculation about Scarlett Johansson’s character.
A stunt double believed to be standing in for Johansson was reportedly seen in the passenger seat of the Batmobile during filming.
The identity of Johansson’s character has not yet been officially revealed.
However, rumours have suggested that she could play Glinda Dent, the wife of Gotham district attorney Harvey Dent.
Matt Reeves returns to direct and co-write The Batman: Part II. He has written the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, who previously worked on uncredited script revisions for the first film.
Michael Giacchino is also returning to compose the score.
Cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, known for his collaborations with David Fincher, has joined the sequel, replacing Greig Fraser, who served as cinematographer on the first film.
