At least sixteen shops were gutted after a fire broke out early Monday at the Konabari kitchen market in Gazipur.
According to Saiful Islam, Station Officer of Konabari Fire Station, the blaze started around 5:30 am and spread rapidly, consuming several nearby shops.
“We suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit, but a detailed investigation will determine the exact cause and assess the total damage,” he said.
Upon receiving the emergency call, four fire service units from Konabari and surrounding stations responded swiftly and brought the flames under control after about two and a half hours of combined effort.
Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Preliminary estimates suggest the fire caused losses of roughly Tk 25 lakh, while firefighters were able to save goods worth nearly Tk 5 crore from the affected area.
