Bus services on all internal and long-distance routes from Barishal resumed on Tuesday evening after remaining suspended for nearly 10 hours.
Buses started operating from the Nathullabad Central Bus Terminal area in the evening after transport workers withdrew their blockade.
Earlier in the morning, workers began a strike demanding a ban on the movement of three-wheelers, including Mahindras, on the Barishal-Dhaka Highway and other major roads.
Later, they halted bus operations and blocked the highway in the Nathullabad Central Bus Terminal area.
The suspension disrupted long-distance bus services between Barishal and Dhaka as well as other parts of the country, along with all local routes. Passengers were stranded at the terminal and nearby areas, with many seeking alternative transport to reach their destinations.
The highway blockade caused severe traffic disruption in the Nathullabad area of the Dhaka-Barishal Highway, creating long tailbacks on both sides of the road and causing significant inconvenience to passengers and commuters.
Transport workers said they had been expressing frustration for a long time over the continued operation of Mahindras and other three-wheelers on highways. Similar bus suspensions had been enforced in Barishal in the past over the same demand.
Following discussions with the relevant authorities and assurances to address the issue, the workers withdrew the blockade. Bus services on all internal and long-distance routes gradually returned to normal.
Barishal Metropolitan Police Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shakhawat Hossain said the workers ended the blockade after discussions and resolution of the issue. The situation is now normal, he added.
