The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to begin local government elections with Union Parishad polls in November, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said on Tuesday.
“We are working with a target to hold the local government elections from November,” he told Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
He said the commission has already started preparations to hold the elections in November.
“The election season runs from November to April, which is considered a suitable period for holding polls. However, festivals such as Puja, Eid and Ramadan will have to be taken into consideration while announcing the election schedule,” Masud said.
The election commissioner said the EC has taken a policy decision to hold the Union Parishad elections first.
