A Bangladeshi expatriate was shot dead inside a restaurant in New York City, while another Bangladeshi was injured.

The shooting occurred around 11:30pm local time on Saturday at the “American Best Wings and Pizza” restaurant on Rockaway Avenue in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn.

The deceased, Md Raju, was from Kangshnagar village in Ward‑3 of Amishapara Union, Sonaimuri upazila, Noakhali.

Eyewitnesses and relatives said an armed man entered the shop and opened fire, hitting Raju, who worked there, and another Bangladeshi.

Raju was shot in the chest, while the other man was struck in the leg. Both were rushed to a local hospital, where Raju died during treatment. The injured man has since recovered after medical care.

Jahangir Alam, acting chairman of Amishapara Union Parishad, said, “We have heard about Raju’s death. The victim’s family has appealed to senior government authorities for assistance in repatriating his body to Bangladesh.”
