China has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who has unofficially been elected the 23rd President of Bangladesh.
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka extended its greetings to Fakhrul on Thursday.
“Warm congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy said China attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh and is ready to work closely with the country to build a Bangladesh-China community with a shared future in the new era, bringing greater benefits to the two countries and their peoples.
Meanwhile, the British High Commission in Dhaka also congratulated Fakhrul on his election as president.
“The UK looks forward to working with Hon. President Fakhrul and the Government of Bangladesh to further strengthen the close and longstanding partnership between our two countries,” the High Commission said in a message.
