Advance bookings for Vijay’s much-delayed film Jana Nayagan have opened in the United Kingdom, with the distributor claiming that thousands of tickets were sold within the first hour as excitement builds ahead of the film’s release on 24 July.
According to the Hindustan Times, director H Vinoth’s film recently received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after months of delay. UK ticket sales began soon afterwards, with the distributor urging fans to turn the release into “the biggest send-off Tamil cinema has ever seen”.
The distributor wrote on social media: “Years from now, people will ask if you were there. Make sure your answer is YES. This isn’t just a film. It’s a goodbye to the man who gave us everything. UK — we need you in those seats. We need you going MAD. We need you NOW.” A short time later, the distributor claimed that “thousands of UK tickets” had been sold within 60 minutes, describing the response as “unbelievable”.
Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for release in January. However, the film was delayed after it failed to obtain CBFC certification. An examining committee member lodged a complaint, prompting the film to be referred to the revising committee. After seven months, along with several cuts and modifications, the film finally secured certification.
Production house KVN Productions confirmed on Saturday that the film has received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC. Announcing the development on social media, the studio wrote: “See you soon in theatres nanba & nanbis. #JanaNayaganCensoredA.” Fans who had waited months for the release welcomed the news. The film is being promoted as Vijay’s final screen appearance before his full-time political career.
Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The film is reportedly an adaptation of Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 hit Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Balakrishna, Sreeleela and Kajal Aggarwal.
Advance bookings are expected to open in India and other international markets soon. Expectations remain high, largely because Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s farewell to cinema as he transitions into politics.
