A group of armed men allegedly stormed a residence in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Friday evening, assaulted tenants and snatched mobile phones, according to victims.
The incident took place around 6pm at Hanif Company’s house near the Beribadh four-road intersection under Mohammadpur Police Station.
The victims have filed a complaint with Mohammadpur Police Station after identifying four suspects from CCTV footage recorded at the premises.
The identified suspects are Md Helal, Md Munna, Md Shaon and Md Raihan.
According to the victims, eight to 10 masked men carrying locally made weapons entered the room of a resident named Abu Bakkar. The attackers allegedly accused Abu Bakkar of having links with the Awami League and demanded money from him.
“During the Awami League’s tenure, you made a lot of money. Now give us some,” the attackers allegedly told him.
When other tenants attempted to intervene after hearing the commotion, the attackers allegedly threatened them with samurai swords.
The victims said several residents suffered minor injuries to their hands and backs during the incident. The attackers also snatched two mobile phones before leaving the scene.
The injured residents received primary treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
After receiving treatment, they lodged a formal complaint with Mohammadpur Police Station.
Police are expected to investigate the allegations using CCTV footage and take action against those involved.
