Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt may have opted for a simple and intimate wedding, but one detail from the ceremony has captured widespread attention — Gauri’s bespoke wedding ring, a handcrafted piece featuring an exceptionally rare Madagascar ruby.
According to Hindustan Times, the heirloom-inspired ring took more than three months to source and required 256 hours of craftsmanship by 131 skilled artisans. Instead of the diamond solitaire commonly seen in celebrity wedding jewellery, the ring features a natural Madagascar ruby, described as rarer than one in a million.
Amit Kumar, co-founder and CEO of QWEEN, said sourcing the gemstone was an extensive process that added to the ring’s exclusivity.
“It took more than three months to source the ruby, taking 256 hours by karigars and 131 pairs of skilled hands. This is a Madagascar ruby, which is rarer than one in a million. The wedding ring is designed to look, quite literally, like royalty,” he said.
The ring was created as an heirloom rather than a conventional wedding band. Set in a prong setting, the piece required more than 256 hours of work from design development to the final setting and finishing.
Its design also sets it apart from traditional engagement rings. Instead of resting directly on a plain band, the ruby sits inside a crown-inspired gold setting that gives the appearance of the gemstone being held like a royal crown.
The ruby features a cabochon cut, giving it a smooth, domed surface instead of traditional facets. The finish enhances the stone’s rich colour and creates the impression that it glows from within.
According to Kumar, the ring also features a scalloped gold gallery that rises into crown-like points around the ruby before flowing into a finely detailed milgrain band, a style historically associated with coronation and heirloom jewellery. Viewed from the side, the ring resembles a high-domed bombé signet, giving it a distinctive and regal silhouette.
Every element of the design reflects an heirloom aesthetic, making Gauri Spratt’s wedding ring a one-of-a-kind piece defined by rare craftsmanship and royal-inspired detailing.
