A fisherman went missing after falling from a fishing trawler into the Baleshwar River near Zianagar Bridge in Pirojpur on Saturday morning.
Mahabub Bapari, 60, is a resident of East Chandipur village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.
The incident took place around 10:30am.
According to Hafizul Bapari, the skipper of the trawler, Mahabub fell into the water suddenly as they were about to set off for the sea. Although immediate efforts were made to rescue him, he quickly submerged.
Local residents initiated a search operation immediately following the accident. Upon being informed, a team from the Fire Service arrived at the scene to begin rescue efforts. As of the latest reports, the missing fisherman has not yet been located.
Nuruzzaman, acting station officer of Zianagar Fire Service, said a diving team from Barishal had been dispatched to conduct a more extensive search.
