Parliament has passed the national budget of Tk9,38,000 crore for the fiscal year 2026–27, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
The new budget is Tk1,48,000 crore larger than the budget for the outgoing 2025–26 fiscal year, which stood at Tk7,90,000 crore.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury moved the Appropriations Bill 2026 in the House on Tuesday afternoon.
The budget was subsequently passed by voice vote, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presiding over the session.
The passage of the budget followed the disposal of 1,344 cut motions submitted by lawmakers against 59 demands for grants relating to various ministries and departments. These motions were discussed in the House before being settled by voice vote.
The finance minister had originally placed the proposed Tk9.38 lakh crore budget in parliament on 11 June. It was finalised on Tuesday following extensive deliberations by treasury bench members, the opposition, and independent lawmakers.
The newly approved budget will officially come into effect on 1 July.
