CSE meets BB Gov on commodity exchange plan

The Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) held a meeting with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank in Dhaka on 29 June 2026 at 5pm, where discussions focused on the proposed commodity derivatives exchange and broader capital market development, according to a press release.

The meeting at the central bank headquarters was attended by a CSE delegation led by Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman, while Bangladesh Bank Governor outlined policy perspectives on market expansion, private sector credit growth and regulatory facilitation, the statement said in a press release.

During the discussions, the CSE delegation updated the Governor on progress in establishing a commodity derivatives exchange, initially planned to launch gold futures and silver futures, subject to approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Governor said Bangladesh Bank approval is not required for launching gold and silver futures and stressed the need to raise private sector credit and investment growth to 10% to support economic expansion.

He added that developing a strong and dynamic capital market alongside the banking sector is essential for long-term equity financing for entrepreneurs, while also highlighting recent amendments to NITA (Non-Resident Investors’ Taka Account) regulations to ease repatriation of securities sales proceeds.

The Governor further underscored the importance of transparency and potential in the equity market.

The CSE delegation included Md Saifur Rahman Mojumder FCA FCMA, Managing Director, Mortuza Alam, General Manager, and Mohammad Monirul Haque, General Manager. Senior officials of Bangladesh Bank also attended the meeting.
