Chhatra Shibir’s central assistant international affairs secretary Jisan Mia Pradhan, who was allegedly missing from Cumilla’s Daudkandi, was not abducted but went into hiding to avoid the consequences of a rape allegation, police said.
In a press release, police said that Jisan’s cousin Md Rasel Ahmed filed a general diary on Friday (12 June), reporting him missing from Daudkandi bazar the previous evening. Several teams of the law enforcers launched a search for him.
Investigators later learned Jisan had met a 25‑year‑old widow on Facebook about six months ago, and a relationship developed. The woman was raped at Jisan’s rented home in Daudkandi on 20 May under the promise of marriage and later became pregnant. She was allegedly pressured to end her pregnancy using drugs.
According to the release, the woman demanded marriage, and Jisan assured her it would take place on 12 June. But on 11 June night he went into hiding, staging his disappearance through his cousin’s diary entry.
On 12 June, locals found Jisan unconscious at Laksam Junction Road and handed him to police, who took him to hospital. He claimed he had been abducted, but investigators found no evidence of kidnapping.
Following his recovery, the woman filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Jisan as prime accused along with three others, alleging rape, complicity, abortion and intimidation.
Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman said, “Jisan has been rescued. Preliminary investigation shows he was not abducted but went into hiding after a fraudulent incident with a woman. A case has been filed based on her complaint, and the allegations are being investigated.”
