The government has approved the import of multiple petroleum products to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply across the country during the June–August 2026 period.
The approvals were granted at the 26th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Officials said the Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted four separate procurement proposals for Gas Oil, Jet A-1 fuel, Furnace Oil, and Octane through international open tenders.
Under the approved plans, Singapore-based Unipec Singapore Pte Ltd will supply Gas Oil 0.005 per cent sulphur and Jet A-1 fuel under Package-1 at an estimated cost of Tk7,672.66 crore. Package-2 for the same fuel categories was awarded to Vitol Asia Pte Ltd. at an estimated cost of Tk6,711.75 crore.
The committee also approved the import of Furnace Oil from Trafigura Pte. Ltd. under Package-3 at a cost of Tk 1,900.05 crore. Vitol Asia Pte Ltd. was selected to supply Gasoline 95 (Octane) under Package-4 at an estimated cost of Tk748.96 crore.
Officials noted that sourcing diesel and aviation fuel from two separate suppliers will diversify the supply chain and reduce risks associated with potential import disruptions. The imports are expected to meet rising domestic demand and maintain stability in Bangladesh’s energy market.
