Spain beat Peru 3-1 in Puebla on Monday, completing their final World Cup warm-up with a controlled victory. Thousands of fans packed the stadium days before the global tournament begins on Thursday.
Mikel Oyarzabal struck first after just two minutes. He hit hard from the edge of the area, giving Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese no chance. Spain were in control from the opening exchanges.
Pedri made it two before the half-hour mark. He tapped into an empty net after Ferran Torres drove a cross into the box. Spain’s passing was sharp and purposeful throughout the first half.
Spain added a third early after the break. Yeremy Pino delivered a ball that Gallese fumbled into his own net. Peru responded when Jairo Velez pulled one back with a low finish, but Spain never looked threatened.
Luis de la Fuente’s squad carries strong Barcelona representation, and the crowd reflected it. Spain shirts filled the stands alongside Barcelona jerseys. Pedri, Rodri and Ferran Torres drew the loudest cheers as fans chanted and performed Mexican waves around the ground.
Peru supporters were outnumbered but made noise throughout the evening. World Cup merchandise stalls lined the streets outside. Heavy security was in place around the venue, though it did nothing to quieten the atmosphere inside.
Spain head into the tournament in form and confidence. They open their World Cup campaign in the coming days as one of the leading contenders for the title.
