A man was killed following a dispute with rivals in Manirampur upazila of Jashore on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Imamul Hossain, 50, mason by profession.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Sayeed of Manirampur Police Station confirmed the matter and said the incident took place around 9:30pm.
According to local sources, Imamul was returning home from Swaranpur Jamtala intersection, a group of people from the same village, due to previous enmity, blocked his way and assaulted him.
They allegedly struck him with sharp weapons and sticks, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals rescued the victim and initially rushed him to the Jhikargacha Upazila Health Complex.
He was later shifted to the Jashore 250-bed Hospital for advanced treatment, where the doctor at the emergency department declared him dead.
Following the murder, teams from both Manirampur and Jhikargacha police stations visited the scene.
OC Sayeed said legal proceedings regarding the matter are underway.
