A man was killed by his nephew following a long-standing dispute over land in the Lakshirchar area of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Huq Miah, 45, a truck driver by profession and the son of Mansur Miah.
According to police and local sources, a bitter feud regarding land ownership had existed between Huq Miah and his nephew, Salam Miah, for a significant period.
The conflict escalated on Saturday morning while the two were working on a plot of land adjacent to their home. A heated argument broke out, which quickly turned into a physical altercation.
During the clash, an enraged Salam Miah reportedly attacked his uncle with a sharp domestic weapon. Huq Miah sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Upon being notified, the Jamalpur police arrived at the location to recover the body. The remains were subsequently transported to the Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Najmus Sakib, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary findings suggest the homicide was triggered by the land-related row.
“The body has been recovered and sent to the hospital for an autopsy. Police are currently conducting raids to apprehend the accused, and necessary legal actions will be taken following a thorough investigation,” the OC added.
