ACI Motors has extended financial support to the family of Dulal, a bus helper from Bhurungamari, Kurigram, who lost his life while saving 46 passengers from a runaway bus.

Company representatives visited Dulal’s home on Saturday afternoon to hand over cash assistance to his wife, Moslima Khatun, and elder brother.

The incident occurred on the night of 29 May when an Ahsan Paribahan bus travelling from Bhurungamari to Dhaka lost control near the Dhaleshwari toll plaza due to brake failure. When the driver could not regain control, Dulal risked his life by attempting to stop the bus using wooden logs and heavy objects.

The bus eventually halted, but Dulal was crushed under the wheels, sacrificing himself to save all 46 passengers on board.

Local residents said Dulal’s family relied on the earnings of two brothers, leaving them vulnerable after his death. “My husband’s modest income supported our household and my medical treatment,” said Moslima Khatun, adding that she needs approximately Tk10,000 monthly for medicine and is anxious about how the family will survive.

The ACI Motors delegation included Ishtiaq Ahmed, Territory Officer of Yamaha Motorcycle Bangladesh; Mehedi Hasan Sajib, Product Executive; Ekramul Haque, Admin of Kurigram Yamaha Riders Club; and Ahmed Rahat, Moderator of Rangpur Yamaha Riders Club.

Ishtiaq Ahmed praised Dulal’s courage as a “rare” and “bright example of humanity” and assured that the company would continue supporting his family in the future.
