The investigation of a case filed over the alleged attempts to rape and murder a Jahangirnagar University female student has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further probe.
Police Headquarters issued a letter today confirming that Ashulia Police Station Case No. 80, dated 13 May 2026, registered under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, and sections 323 and 307 of the Penal Code, has officially been transferred to the CID for further investigation.
The transfer followed recommendations from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dhaka District. The SP has been instructed to hand over all case-related documents to the CID promptly.
The incident occurred on 12 May near the abandoned Fazilatunnesa Hall on the university campus, where an outsider allegedly attempted to assault and murder the student.
Since the incident, students from various groups, including the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), have been staging protests demanding the arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment.
