An inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has been withdrawn from duty following allegations of involvement in drug-related activities in Savar.
The officer has been identified as Masudur Rahman. The withdrawal order was signed on Monday by Rajib Mina, Director (Administration and Finance) of the Department of Narcotics Control.
Local sources said that SI Jerin Sultana and Constable Abdullah Al Masum of the DNC were recently assaulted by a local drug kingpin, Shamim, in the Aichanoadda area of Savar. The officials were reportedly released only after issuing an apology.
In a separate incident in Ashulia, several DNC staff were injured during an attack at a cannabis den near Buri Bazar. The assault was carried out by associates of cannabis dealer Parveen, her daughter Mukti, and local drug users when officials arrived to collect ‘masohara’ (monthly protection money).
Notably, Shamim and his associates had also attacked and hacked two TV journalists at a drug spot in Palwan Para, Savar municipality. Four police officers have already been withdrawn in connection with that incident.
