Savar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arman Ali has been removed from his post and attached to police lines for failing to arrest drug dealers and maintain law and order in the area, officials said on Tuesday.
Dhaka District Police Superintendent Shamima Parveen confirmed the matter around midday.
According to reports, on May 22, three media workers were attacked while gathering information at the hideout of top drug dealer Shamim in the Rajason area of Savar. The drug dealer’s men brutally beat the three journalists, leaving them injured and hospitalised.
Although a case was filed at Savar Model Police Station naming 21 individuals in connection with the incident, police have not yet arrested Shamim, the alleged kingpin.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a Sub-Inspector (SI) and two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) of the same police station were also closed and attached to police lines over allegations of fraternising with the drug dealer.
The removals reflect growing concern over the administration’s ability to curb drug-related crime and ensure journalist safety in the area. Further action is expected as investigations continue.
