BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday called on people to extend support to the poor and helpless during Eid-ul-Adha, highlighting the festival’s spirit of equality, generosity and harmony.
In a message marking the occasion, Fakhrul also sent greetings to Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world, wishing them continuous happiness, peace and prosperity.
Describing Eid-ul-Adha as one of Islam’s two major religious festivals, he said it is a festival of sacrifice that teaches devotion and obedience to Almighty Allah. “Its significance lies in drawing closer to Allah through the act of sacrifice,” he noted.
Fakhrul said the global celebration of Eid-ul-Adha unites Muslims, while the ritual of animal sacrifice symbolises the removal of evil from the mind and encourages a simple, modest life to attain Allah’s pleasure.
“The noble lesson of sacrifice should inspire us to dedicate ourselves to the welfare of humanity,” he added.
He emphasised that Eid-ul-Adha instils deep love and unconditional obedience to Allah, and that festivals promote human values and generosity beyond religion and ethnicity. “Festivals strengthen bonds of harmony, bringing society from the darkness of division towards the light of humanity,” he said.
Concluding his message, Fakhrul urged citizens to rise above selfish interests and extend support to the poor and vulnerable. “Let us uphold the spirit of joy, sacrifice and celebration and ensure that no one is left behind,” he said, praying for peace, happiness and prosperity for all.
